Catholic Board to provide additional busing services for its students beginning this September

BRANTFORD, Ontario – The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) is investing in transportation in order to provide enhanced bus services to 255 more elementary students.

Both Trustee Rick Petrella and Trustee Bill Chopp spearheaded the initiative and brought forth a motion for a policy change on busing eligibility for BHNCDSB students, which was approved by the Board in late June. The Board notified Student Transportation Services of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk’s Board of Directors of the change in policy effective September, 2018.

“Over the last five years, the transportation department has achieved a number of efficiencies and cost savings through competitive procurement and route optimizations. Inline with this Board’s continued focus on putting students first and reinvesting in our students, we were able to enhance transportation services for our students,” said Chair of the Board, Rick Petrella. “As part of the budget process, the Board has chosen to direct $110,000 of its surplus transportation allocation to enhance services for its families. I am pleased to announce that as of September 2018, the Board has lowered the elementary walking distance from 1.6 km to 1.4 km guaranteeing 255 additional students of the Board a ride to and from school daily,” added Chair of the Board, Rick Petrella.

The improved services breaks down to an additional 59 transports in Haldimand County, 36 in Norfolk and 160 in Brantford/Brant County.

The STSBHN portal, which details bus routes as well as pickup/drop off times, open today, August 15th 2018. In order for families to see if they now qualify for busing they can login to the STSBHN portal by visiting www.stsbhn.ca.
